30Nov06Me and Pierre

Jon and I went downtown Chicago on Saturday morning for some photography and bonding. We had a blast walking around Millennium Park and then the river area. Must have put on a good 3 miles walking around. Towards the end of our adventures I called my Dad to see where the closest Garrett’s popcorn was. Garretts is legendary when you grow up with my dad in your family. They have great popcorn and my dad brags on it every chance he gets. Long story short, Dad happened to be around the block and picked us up in the big bus he drives and dropped us in front of the nearest Garrett’s.

Jon and I went inside and we soon approached by Pierre, a homeless guy who was hungry. I agreed to get him some popcorn. So we get up to the counter and he starts ordering for himself and thinks he is going to get a big bag of popcorn and a big bag of cashews. All in total his order would have come to over $13 (give or take) so I corrected him saying he was only going to have the popcorn or the cashews. He chose the cashews :) Anyway it was a pretty hilarious encounter and Jon managed to catch a shot of my looking back at him mouthing “can you believe this guy?” Here are a few photos from that morning and the last one is me and Pierre in line at Garretts.

25Nov06Sarah and Jon

Got to work with a wonderful couple this weekend in Chicago. They are my brother and sister in-law Jon and Sarah Vander Plas. Jon was a little uncomfortable with the PDAs but shortly warmed up to the idea ;)

24Nov06The Risley Family

I had the honor of meeting and photographing the Risley family last Friday. They were lots of fun… Five great kids, two fun parents and a couple grandparents! Thanks guys.

19Nov06The Family is Growing

I bet I got a few clicks from RSS feeds people thinking they knew what that title meant :) No that is not what this post is about. Rather I have been working on an off camera flash setup with a key light and fill with my Canon Speedlite 550EX as the key and my 420EX as the fill. I got it all set up this evening and had to test it out.

So where does the title of this post come in? We’ll you see, I recently acquired two new lenses. Selling my 24-105 F4 IS USM got me enough money to buy the 24-70 F2.8 USM and since I have been using my 50mm so much lately and it is broken, I decided to get the Canon 50mm F1.4 USM. Here is the whole “family” and a shot of a vase we got a few weeks ago.

17Nov06Fun shot by Rich Smith

I took my buddy Rich with me to shoot an event at the Walden Club on Tuesday night… it was great to have him along and he got some really great shots. This was by far the funnest shot of the night and it was captured by Rich.
