17Feb06Money Making Scam
As you all probably know, erin got in a minor car accident last month causing no injuries, very minor damage to the other car and minimal damage to our car as well. Nothing a new hood and some paint couldn’t fix. Well when the office got to the scene of the accident, she claimed she had no option but to give Erin a ticket. I know this to be false because I got in an accident a few years back (same situation… same type of damage/injuries) and the officer reporting to that one said that tickets were given at the officer’s discretion. The other part of this is that we were not given the option to just pay the ticket… Erin HAD to go to traffic court.
Fine. So we went to court this morning. Case after case getting dismissed, delayed, so on so forth. Erin gets up there, they go over the events the judge asks a few questions. No more than 3 minutes we were there for the actual court apperance and they gave her 6 months to prove that she is a good driver (will dismiss at that point if there are no more blemishes on her record) but we have to pay court fees. I was expecting this and thought the fines would be like $15 or something… NOPE $65 for 3 mintues of that judges time!
I am obviously joking about the money making scam title but this fee does seem really high and it also just seemed silly to make Erin go to court without the option of just paying the fine. It does work in our favor not to have it on her driving record so the outcome is as good as can be I guess.

Ahh, yes…the judicial system, don’t you just love it? Be careful, you might open the door for many ‘horror’ stories from all your followers on this blog. For me, I reserve mine, unless you insist!
